The Africast Secretariat has announced the final call for abstracts from prospective speakers at Africast 2010, scheduled for october 19 - 21, in Abuja, Nigeria.
The Coordinator of Africast, Mallam Awwalu Salihu, explained that the theme for Africast 2010, "Africa in Digital Transition: Options and Perspectives", is designed to consolidate and further drive the pressing question of transition from analogue to digital terrestrial broadcasting, which was introduced during the previous edition of the conference.
He said each paper was expected to be a crisp 20-minute presentation to set the tone for in-depth discussion by participants at the conference.
Mallam Awwalu said the aim of this approach was to afford the participants consisting broadcasters, academics, policy makers and executors as well as business decision-makers from all over Africa and beyond a clearer understanding of the implications of this monumental process that is drastically changing the nature of broadcasting globally. Some of the important issues highlighted by the reality of digitisation, form the sub themes of Africast 2010. they include:
1. Content Management in a Digital Era
2. Harnessing African Values: Imperatives of the Digital Era
3. Computer-Generated Images and the Death of Authenticity: New Perspectives in Video: Production
4. Driving the Digitisation Process: Effective Policies and Implementation
5. Costs of Digitisation: Who bears the Burden?
6. Content Creation and Rights Management in a Digital Era
7. Digitisation Alert! Mind the equipment you buy. the coordinator requested prospective speakers to kindly send their abstracts in word, pdf or PowerPoint format to the coordinators at any of the following e-mail addresses:

To be on the programme, he explained, abstracts should the Africast Coordinators by July 31, 2010, while notification of acceptance would be sent by August 06, 2010. |
